A highly decorative late Victorian display cabinet retaining its original ivorine maker’s label for W. Walker & Sons, Manufacturers, Bunhill Row, London E.C.
Constructed from richly toned mahogany, the cabinet features three glazed display sections with a beautifully shaped serpentine front and mirror-backed interior. The elegant proportions, carved detailing and shaped cabriole legs reflect the influence of refined late Victorian and French-inspired furniture design.
Mirror-backed glazed cabinets such as this were designed to enhance interior lighting and beautifully display porcelain, silverware, leather-bound books and decorative collectibles. The mirrored interior creates depth and light, making this piece particularly striking in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
The cabinet retains its original brass drop handles and decorative escutcheons, while the shaped under-tier shelf adds both practicality and visual balance.
