Antique Padouk Blanket Box with Brass Mounts | Carved Storage Chest c1880–1920

A striking antique padouk blanket box / storage chest, dating to approximately c1880–1920, with richly carved decoration and extensive brass mounts throughout.

The chest features a deeply carved front panel with scrolling foliate motifs, geometric carving to the side panels and a wonderful collection of decorative brass fittings across the lid and body, including pierced corner plates, strap fittings, roundels and lock furniture.

The warm-toned padouk timber has developed a beautiful aged patina, with natural variation in the grain and finish that gives the piece plenty of character.

The large hinged lid opens to reveal a generous storage interior, together with a useful internal compartment for smaller items.

This is a highly decorative yet practical antique piece, ideal as a blanket box, linen chest, hallway storage chest, decorative trunk or coffee-table-style storage piece.
