A handsome antique mahogany chest of drawers, believed to date from the late Georgian or early Victorian period, circa 1820–1850.
Featuring a traditional arrangement of two short drawers over three full-width drawers, this attractive chest offers generous storage within a classic, understated design.
The mahogany has developed a lovely warm colour and aged patina, complemented by traditional brass ring handles, decorative moulding around the top and shaped bracket feet.
The drawers feature traditional dovetail construction with pine secondary timber, consistent with period cabinetmaking techniques.
With its timeless proportions and practical size, this chest would make a wonderful addition to a traditional bedroom, country cottage or period-inspired living room. It could also serve as a stylish storage piece in a hallway or dressing room.
Condition
Good antique condition overall, with wear and tear commensurate with age.
The top displays surface scratches, small dark marks and general signs of use, retaining an attractive aged finish.
There are historic repairs, including evidence of work to the drawer construction. A small hole is present in the middle large drawer, as shown in the photographs.
The chest retains its aged character and has not been heavily restored.
