An impressive antique Victorian mahogany washstand, dating from the late 19th century and featuring a beautifully shaped demi-lune form with its original marble top and raised marble backstand.
The generously veined white and grey marble top has a rounded front edge and is complemented by a shaped splashback with a small elevated marble shelf. Beneath, the mahogany base features a deep curved frieze, square rear supports and a prominent carved scroll-form front support terminating in an acanthus-style foot.
The shaped platform base echoes the curved outline of the top, creating an elegant and architectural appearance. Originally intended as a bedroom washstand, it would now make a distinctive console table, hall table, serving table or statement piece within a bathroom or dressing room.
The washstand is in good antique condition with age-related wear, marks and natural variations to the mahogany and marble consistent with its age and previous use. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
