A handsome early Victorian flame mahogany chiffonier, dating from circa 1830-1850.
This is a lovely period piece with richly figured flame mahogany veneer, a shaped raised back-stand, rounded front columns, carved fan detail to the cupboard doors and bun feet. The warm colour and aged patina give it a strong decorative presence, while the compact proportions make it ideal for a hallway, living room, dining room or alcove.
The chiffonier features a long upper drawer, twin cupboard doors below and internal shelved storage. The drawer and cupboard shelves are lined, making it practical for use as a sideboard, drinks cabinet, hall cabinet or general antique storage piece.
As expected for a piece of this age, there are signs of wear, marks, scratches, knocks, minor veneer imperfections and age-related character throughout. The right hand door has worn slightly at the bottom and the back-stand has a slight gap in the centre. These are in keeping with its period and use, and form part of the charm of the piece. Please study the photos as they form part of the description.
