A characterful antique Victorian spoon-back nursing chair, crafted from mahogany and upholstered in rich red velvet.
The chair has a deep, generously padded seat, a curved upholstered back and sweeping padded arms. Decorative pierced mahogany supports sit beneath the arms and at the centre of the back, while the shaped front legs are fitted with metal ball castors.
Its low seat height and enveloping form are typical of Victorian nursing or fireside chairs, making it ideal as a bedroom chair, occasional armchair, dressing-room seat or decorative statement piece.
The red velvet upholstery has a wonderfully rich colour and remains usable, although it shows age-related wear. Some sections of the decorative braid are loose or missing, and there are marks, rubbing and wear to the wooden frame consistent with age and use.
